The calm is finally settling in after the storm of the Covid-19 pandemic. Recreation continued to provide services to the public amidst the global pandemic with modification and precautions. Although it seemed the Department had everything up and running, one section of the Department’s Leisure Service Division was not allowed to continue. The Golden Age program, a social club for adults 50 years and older, was suspended due to the high risk of the Covid-19 virus. Now JPRD is welcoming back its members. On Friday, April 23, the Westbank Golden Agers had a Welcome Back celebration to kick off the program’s revival. The Eastbank had their kickoff a week later, on April 30. “Golden Age is pretty much back to normal other than [wearing] masks, [social] distancing and temperature checks,” said Rebecca Bourgeois, Recreation Administrator-Leisure Services. The Department is ecstatic to have its final program running to provide seniors opportunities for recreation right in time for the summer.
