A new play area and a community memorial unveiled. The Department of Parks & Recreation commemorated the Willie Harris Sr. Memorial tot-lot with a ceremony on Nov. 19, 2020. The Haydel Manor subdivision mentor inspired the new play area. Harris’ commitment to the community and passion for uplifting children encouraged the community to name the new project in his honor.

The tot-lot, located at 6170 August Ave., was vacant land cleared for the Memorial site in Marrero. The area has new fencing, sidewalks, security lights, benches, and more. A rubber safety surface covers the tot-lot. Each component placed at the Memorial site is to encourage and continue to provide an imaginative playtime for kids for years to come.
