Councilman Paul Johnston, Senator John Alario, and the Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation Department built The Ree Alario Special Needs Center as a joint effort in 2016. The groups designed the Ree Alario Center to accommodate and enhance the lives of the special needs community in Jefferson Parish. The facility has ADA-accessible restrooms, a covered entrance, a covered porch, three large meeting rooms with mood-enhancing colored flooring, a full-sized gym with volleyball and basketball courts, a concession stand, and a kitchen. In addition, the Ree Alario is home to our special needs programming and summer camps. We currently offer Basketball, Bocce, Ceramics, Computer Literacy, Dance, Educational Enrichment, Piano, and Movement classes out of the facility. During the summer and holidays, we hold camps for children with developmental disabilities starting at age 6. Our Pinnacles Club, which consists of high functioning adults with developmental disabilities, ages 18+, also meets at The Ree Alario weekly for their club meetings.
